Next in our sequence is Tabletop with a backbend, Eka Pada Dhanurasana.
At this point in the preparation, we begin to rise from the ground. Starting on the ground helps us connect to Earth Element, the quality of stability, structure, and foundation. This is important for remaining safe in backbends.

From a tabletop position, take the opposite arm and leg behind the back to hold onto the outer ankle. Keep the bottom art straight without hyperextending the elbow. Turn the elbow toward the pinky while keeping the chest broad. Spread the back toes and kick the foot back and up. To prevent dumping in the low back, lightly engage the lower abdomen. Stay and breathe, then switch sides.

Holy cow! It was 73 degrees in NJ today. This has to be the best weather ever for a December day. Surrounded by my family and friends I could not feel more blessed. We made ravioli from scratch and laughed. We did yoga. We drank wine and the children danced. I feel so alive. It’s days like today that make those hospital days tolerable. It’s days like today that remind us of the infinite beauty that surrounds us.
